Freestyle Libre- The CCG have confirmed that Flash Glucose Monitoring (Freestyle Libre) will not be available on NHS FP10 prescription to patients and that it has been designated as BLACK in the CCG formulary.

The CCGs have considered the evidence and recommendations from various local Area Prescribing Committees and the Regional Medicines Optimisation Committee (RMOC) alongside the significant financial pressures to the CCGs that Freestyle Libre could present. The CCGs decision-making committees expressed concern about the limited evidence base to demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of the product. Patient experience and quality of life improvements experienced by patients using the product were noted.

After careful consideration the CCG committees concluded that, given the financial position of both CCGs Flash Glucose Monitoring (Fresstyle Libre) is unaffordable at this current time. This decision was made on the basis of no current evidence of value for money and because of limited data on proven clinical benefit.

The CCGs will continue to review any forthcoming evidence that becomes available in the future, and will reassess the decision in light of any relevant new positive evidence.
